My Lil' Swimmer

We started Mommy and Me swim lessons at the high school pool! My friend Amy and her son Elijah go with us on Tuesday and Thursday and we get to have a half hour of play time in the water. Madelyn is learning to blow bubbles, kick her feet, "reach and pull," splash and float on her back. She is really great at going under water! I didn't even know babies could do this until my friend Katie told me how her daughter Meredith was doing it in her lessons. Babies have this startle reflex that makes them hold their breath when you blow in their face. Then you dip them under and eventually you can let them go and they will swim! We are still at the dipping part, but I saw some 18 month olds swim like 10 feet from the teacher to their mom. Craziness, they have been doing lessons for about 6 months.
