September already?!

I have been really bad about blogging in the month of August, and all of a sudden it is September 1st! How is this possible? This month has been a blast. Maddy and I and my parents went down to visit family in California, I come home to a remodeled kitchen and updated studio, and lots of fun time with Maddy and Daddy and grandparents! It has been really nice having this summer so focused on family and being together. It means so much to us that Maddy really knows her grandparents and nowadays when we leave their house, or if they are here and they leave usually Maddy will cry and hold her arms out for them. So precious. All in all this has been an awesome summer. it was the first one in our whole marriage that Paul didn't work any extra jobs (besides his church job which is all year). I got to work a little in Auburn and get out of the house and kept teaching throughout the summer, but the majority of our time was spent together, loved it! Now I am missing Paul, but excited to watch Maddy grow and learn new things this year.

We were teaching her signs when she was a baby and it didn't really catch on except for "all done..." All of a sudden she is signing all of these new words! "Thank you, please, more, change (like diaper change), up, hug, milk" I think she is making up ones too, but I can't figure out what they mean yet. The coolest thing is I can say, Maddy, go to your room and grab your baby and bring it to Daddy and she will do exactly that! She understands every word we say, it is just amazing! I am glad she can communicate basic ideas with us while she tries to figure out how to talk. Current "talking" words are "mama, dada, hot, up, gege (Georgie, the Riemer doggie), baby, Yia Yia (more like ya ya)" I think that is it, I am sure she says way more in her head that I just can't translate yet.

Other news...I am running my first 5K with my friend Krista and another gal we know through Kirsta's work. I am nervous for the hills, because it is at Point Defiance Park. Everywhere I run is flat! Yikes!! The run is about 3 and a half weeks away, I feel like it is marking a new change for me. Although the "training" has already done that. I am running 4 miles at a time now, no stopping, granted it is a slow jog. Right now the fastest has been 4 miles in 45 minutes, so a little over an 11 minute mile. In high school I was running a 8:30 mile. I also weighed 25 pounds less and was ten years younger and never dreamed of running further than 1 mile, let alone 4 miles!! So, we will see if I can at least get to under a 10 minute mile, that would be great!

And because this was a really long, boring blog, here are a couple cute pictures

Paul's parents got Maddy a cool wooden work bench for her to play with at their house. She loves hammering things, I think it is the perfect toy. I joked that if we ever had a boy I would get to teach him how to knit! :) (I was just kidding though, I think girl carpenters rock!)

My new favorite picture of us. Maddy kisses us all the time now, usually when I ask her to, but it is still stinkin' cute!

5k! way to go. Let me tell you that is going to be just the beginning. There's a half (and a whole too, but that's long) marathon at Disney World. It's always the weekend after the new year. Maybe in 3 years when Maddy will enjoy Disney World too.
